The first time you run imgSeek, an empty database is created, and later saved to the
file "~/.imgseek/img-db.iqd". You can populate it on the "Add images" tab.
Before clicking on the "Add" button, you should choose type (or click on the "..." button)
the full path of the directory you wish to add. Then click the "Add" button and wait. A progress dialog will appear so you can
see how the process is going or Abort it.
This process is extremely slow for large photo collections, so please be patient. On a next version I'll try
hard to make it faster.
Sometimes it is useful to filter the files you add, for example, to exclude any thumbnails dirs and files, you could enter
"tn" on the string restriction and "50" for the size.
See more detailed instructions.

You may browse the photos on the current collection by directory or by similarity on the "Browse images" tab.
by Files
When browsing by Files the paths you added are listed on the left tree-view inside the Volumes they belong to.
Right-click a path on the tree-view for more options.
Also try right-clicking the thumbnails on the right.
By double-clicking a thumbnail, you will start a query for images similar to the one you clicked.
by Groups
All images should belong to a group, if you don't specify one when you add files to your collection,
they will belong to the "Orphan" group.
You may remove, rename or describe groups by right-clicking on them. You may also select items and then drag and drop
into another group.
by Similarity
Before starting the automatic Grouping process, you may want to specify a threshold for grouping similar
images together.
After the automatic grouping is done, you will have on the left icon-view thumbnails of photos representing
the groups. Click on them to show the photos belonging to this group on the right icon-view.
by System Files
Clicking on a directory with images in it will make them appear on the thumbnail view, and clicking on
a thumbnail or on a file that is an image, will make it appear on the image preview pane.
Try right-clicking them for more options

First choose the query source and then click on the "Search" button.
You may want to query for images similar to another photo that is not on your collection, to do so, select
the "Import" tab, click on the "Choose..." button and pick the file. The selected query will be displayed.
On the "Draw" tab, click on the color widget to pick the desired color, which will be displayed on the
little color rectangle. You may change the brush thickness by moving the little horizontal slider.
Throughout imgSeek, whenever you double-click a thumbnail, the clicked image will be used as a query source
and all similar images will appear on the thumbnail view in the Search tab.
To search for keywords on metadata, click on the "Search" tab, then on "by Keyword". To add/remove
query fields, right-click on the table.
You may use one of the cached metadata field names by choosing
it on the drop-down combo box on the first column. You can also supply your custom field that may be
present on some images by simple editing the text on the combo-box.

On the image preview panel you may zoom in and out or fit the image to window by right-clicking on it.
If you right-click any thumbnail or directory, you will see a pop-up menu, where you may choose to start
a slideshow on that directory or show the clicked file on real size.
When doing a slideshow, you may press:
- "Esc" - Stops slideshow
- "Space" - Jump to the next slide or file on the current dir or category
- "Backspace" - Jump to the previous slide or file on the current dir or category
- "R" - Toggles Random jumping

Right-click any image on your database (on it's thumbnail or file item while browsing
by Group or File) and chose the "Edit metadata" option.
On the "Image properties" dialog, you may choose which data field to change
from the combo boxes on the 1st column of the table.
Right-click a row to Add or Remove a field. Double click a cell on the Value column to change it.
By clicking on the Next/Previous/Apply button on the top of this dialog, the changes
you've made to this file will be saved.
You may also use CTRL+N (Next) and CTRL+P (Previous) to navigate.
To apply the metadata info you entered on a table to ALL images on a previously selected group,
click the "Edit Batch" tab, and choose the work batch you want to apply it to. Be careful, because
when you click on the "Apply" button, the fields specified on the table will be applied to every single
image inside the groups/dirs/volumes on the selected batch, overwriting any previous values.

First you must populate a work batch with the directories/groups/volumes/similarity groups
that you want to include on the HTML album. To do so, right click on what you want to include,
and then choose "Add to batch".
If you right click on an empty area of the Groups listview, you may include all root groups on the web album.
There are two ways to create the album: (1) Place all generated html and thumbnails on the same directory where the original target images are,
or (2) placing everything on a separate directory.
On the second mode, you may also choose whether you want to copy all images to the destination dir or if you want to simply symlink them to the
target dir (thus saving disk space and keeping a cleaner dir tree)

A work batch is a way to group different sets of images. You can create work batches consisting
of a Volume, system directory, keyword group, database directory, etc, all mixed up.
To add/edit/remove work batches, invoke the Batch Editor dialog on the "Tools/Edit work batch"
menu option.
Some features like Web Albums and Metadata Editing that can work on a set of photos, require
you to specify which work batch you want to apply changes to.
To populate a work batch, right click on what you want to include,
and then choose "Add to batch".
If you right click on an empty area of the Groups listview, you may include all root groups on a batch.

With "Groups" (sometimes referred as "logical groups" or "keyword
groups") you can organize your collection of photos located on
different media and directory structure into logical groups. Logical
groups will be stored inside imgSeek's database, and every group will
contain only references to other child groups and photos.
Keep in mind that currently, groups can be nested, and images may
belong to more than one group.
|
|
|
Sometimes referred as "database" or "image collection". A collection
is stored on a single database file on disk (probably
~/.imgseek/img-db.iqd) and will store:
metadata extracted from images you added to your collection (using the Add tab)
logical groups
batches you created on previous sessions
history data
similarity groups calculated on previous sessions
